About

— About The Show

The show where nobody knows what's coming. Including the hosts.

Who We Are

We’re Breallyn and Lyndon Wesley – a writer and a musician, married, and collectively responsible for more unfinished projects than we’d like to admit.

Breallyn is a copywriter and novelist-in-progress with a Masters in Creative Writing. She is currently writing her debut novel No Word For Home – slowly, deliberately, and with a healthy amount of second-guessing (and tea).

Lyndon is a musician, studio owner, live performer and producer. He is composing the soundtrack to Breallyn’s novel, which is easier said than done when you haven’t finished reading the manuscript and you’re a really slow reader!

What This Is

Every week, one of us brings a topic to the podcast. The other finds out what it is at the same time you do.

That means the conversation is genuinely unscripted – which means you hear the real first reaction, the pivot when someone doesn’t agree, and the occasional moment where one of us says something we probably should have thought through more carefully.

We talk about creative process, imposter syndrome, the mid-career identity crisis, what it costs to keep making things when life keeps happening around you. Sometimes we interview artists who are living proof it can be done. We always try to be honest about the parts that don’t make the highlight reel.

Why We Do It

We started Pain In The Arts because we suspected we weren’t alone.

The feedback since has confirmed it. Apparently a lot of people are out in the wild, quietly negotiating between the creative life they want and the responsible adult life that keeps showing up uninvited. This show is for them.

New episodes every Tuesday.

We have a growing number of episodes in the back catalogue. Somewhere in there is probably something that will make you feel less alone in whatever you’re making.

We’ve suggested a few starting points here.

Where To Start

If you’re new here, we’d suggest starting with one of these:
📌 Too Good To Quit: The Mid-Career Artist Dilemma 📌 Is Life Art? Remembering Sal and Finding Meaning 📌 The Musician Who Does Everything: Erik Parker on Burnout, Busking, and Building a Music Career
